Crafting Miryang City’s official character, “Goodbabi,” in 3D wasn’t just a task—it was a gut-punching challenge. Bringing the rugged spirit of Gyeongnam, South Korea’s Miryang and the heavy, soul-warming taste of its pork soup to life in three dimensions felt like gripping the earth of Miryang and downing a steaming bowl with my bare hands.
The name “Goodbabi” hit me hard from the start. Short for “Good Gukbap,” it’s a symbol of Miryang’s pork soup—deep, hot, and unapologetically rough around the edges. Diving straight into 3D, I poured everything into sculpting its hefty frame and the iron grip on that soup bowl, channeling the raw grit of a Miryang man. Inside the modeling tools, thick lines and jagged curves took shape, and I could feel this beast pulsing like the wild currents of the Miryang River.
Texturing was where the real fight went down. I slapped on a weathered, sun-scorched skin that screamed Miryang’s relentless heat, then topped the soup bowl with a slick sheen of grease and brute shine. This wasn’t just a model—it had to be a towering chunk of Miryang’s soul, carved from its dirt. When the render finally spat out Goodbabi glaring back at me, I knew this guy was carrying Miryang’s pride on his broad shoulders.
It wasn’t a walk in the park. Keeping that heavy vibe intact while tweaking proportions meant tearing the model apart and rebuilding it more times than I’d admit. One wrong move with the lighting, and it’d soften up—unacceptable. I gritted my teeth, picturing Miryang’s rugged fields and the thick broth of its gukbap, and powered through. This was about forging a man of Miryang, and half-assing it was never an option.
Seeing the finished Goodbabi hit like a punch to the chest. From every angle—360 degrees of raw, unfiltered Miryang strength and gukbap grit stared back. This wasn’t just some 3D piece; it was a warrior standing tall on Miryang’s soil. If someone looks at this and feels the urge to scarf down a bowl of Miryang’s finest while clenching their fist, then my battle’s won.
